97th Annual Putnam County Homecoming

Hello, my name is Katherine LeRose and I am 17 years old, and a senior at Poca High School! I am so excited to be Miss Poca High!  My parents are Chris and Kari LeRose of Poca and my siblings are Christian, Klaire, and Kamille. Being named Miss Poca High School is extra special to me because my mom and my older brother and sister are all Poca Alumni. My older siblings are students now at Marshall University and I am very excited for my little sister, Kamille, to join me at Poca High School this year! I have been born and raised in Poca. I have had the best teachers and education attending Rock Branch Elementary, Poca Middle School, Poca High School and more recently the Putnam Career & Technical Center.

My faith in my Savior Jesus Christ and my witness and love for Him is my number one priority in life! I want to show Jesus’ love to everyone I meet! I am a member of the Nitro Church of the Nazarene and very active in the youth group. I am a delegate on the Nazarene Youth International Board and I love volunteering in the nursery. My passion is teaching children and sharing stories about Jesus.  I also work at Coffee With A Twist, which is a coffee shop ministry through our church and it’s a wonderful place to go and enjoy a great cup of coffee, a pretzel, feel Jesus’ love, and talk with a friend.

At Poca High School, I am involved in several organizations along with participating as a student athlete. I am the Senior Class President in student council and a Link Crew leader. I have a current GPA of 4.05 and I am also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Rho Kappa, and Mu Alpha Theta.

It’s hard to believe that I am a senior but I am so excited to be starting my 4th year as a member of the nationally ranked Poca Varsity Cheer team as a captain, and my 4th year on the award winning Poca Visual Volume Show Choir where I have served as a 3x girls dance captain. I am so thankful to be part of an amazing State Champion Cheer team as well as an amazing State Champion Show Choir where I have made life long friends and I have met new people continuously through the years. I am very thankful and blessed that God gave us, my team and me, the opportunities to be State Champions and I look forward for all of us to work hard and go back for more! I’m thankful that my teachers and coaches encourage us to cheer for others in our community by volunteering and serving those who are in need.  I have learned that I love helping others!

In my “free time”, I love to spend time with my family and friends, and especially my dog, Dolly the doodle! I have attended the Putnam County Homecoming many times throughout  my life.  Many of my family live here in Putnam County and they are my best friends!

Along with school, cheer and church, I work for Putnam Princess Parties LLC. Watching little girls light up, full of joy when they see their favorite princesses is such a joy and fulfilling emotion, it makes me know without a doubt I was meant to work with children.

I truly feel that I have been called by God to become a teacher! After graduation, I plan to attend Marshall University and major in Elementary Education. I am currently in the Teacher Preparation program at PCTC . This program is amazing and has allowed me to make friends from all the area Putnam County High schools! The Teacher Prep program put me on an accelerated path by allowing me to observe in classrooms and see the day to day teacher functions. After college, I plan to return to Putnam County in hopes of teaching in one of the Putnam County elementary schools!

I am extremely thankful to God for all of the blessings that growing up in Putnam County has given me! The people in this county are some of the best people I have ever met! I am so thankful that Putnam County blessed me with the best family, friends, administrators, teachers, coaches, and community ever! Thank you to all of my classmates and friends who chose me to represent the BEST high school in the county! GO DOTS!!!Type your paragraph here.

Hello, I am Faith Taylor. I’m a senior at Hurricane High School. I love being involved in my school and community.

A few of the groups and clubs I am apart of in school include, Student Council, The National Honor Society, The National English honor society, Mu Alpha Theta, Link Crew (this is our organizational team that helps introduce new students to the school and make them feel welcome,) The Prom Committee, The Big Brother Big Sister Program (a group that pairs a high school student with an elementary student in need to be a leader and friend), Helping Paws (a club that supports local animal shelters), and the environmental club. I am also a 4 year member of the cheerleading squad. I love getting to cheer on all of our teams with some of my best friends.

Outside of school, I also attend River Ridge church weekly and volunteer bimonthly leading 1st graders in my church. I am an employee at power up gym and also a server at Bubbarinos bites and bubbles. In my free time, I enjoy exercising, reading, and spending time with friends. In the future, I plan to study kinesiology and become a physical therapist.Type your paragraph here.

My name is Marley Waugh, and I attend Winfield High School. I moved to Winfield in seventh grade from Kentucky, and since then, I’ve found my home here. It’s not just the place that makes it feel like home—it’s the people. At Winfield, I’m a member of the girls’ soccer team and have played all four years of high school. I’ve also participated in girls’ basketball and track. During my junior year, I fractured my back and was unable to compete in any sports seasons. I’m incredibly thankful that God healed me and that I’m now able to return to the sports I love. Academically, I’m a member of the National Honor Society (NHS), Key Club, Pep Club, and serve as a student leader for Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD).

Within the Winfield community, I had the honor of winning the competition to design the 100-year anniversary logo for Winfield High School. Since then, many new opportunities have opened up for me. An author reached out and asked me to illustrate her children’s book, which I’m currently working on. This experience has sparked a strong interest in pursuing graphic design as a future career. I’ve always planned to attend a four-year college and earn a degree. Right now, I’m deciding between two very different paths—graphic design and orthodontics. I’m excited and hopeful for what the future holds. Thank you, Winfield, for everything you’ve given me—my best friend, lifelong friendships, and lasting connections.Type your paragraph here.
